Team High Country Hiking for the Cure

Ultimate Hike

Team High Country Outfitters will be participating in the Ultimate Hike, benefiting CureSearch for Children’s Cancer to take place on May 14, 2011. The money we raise will fund and support collaborative research to find a cure for all cancers affecting children. We need your support, so please make a donation to CureSearch for Children’s Cancer. Together, we will Reach the Day when every child with cancer is guaranteed a cure.

This is a true ultimate challenge – on May 14, 2011, Team High Country Outfitters will be hiking 27.5 miles of the Appalachian Trail in one day to raise money and awareness towards finding the cure for children’s cancer, the #1 cause of death by disease in children.

Every day, 35 children are diagnosed with pediatric cancer – 7 of those children will not survive. Cancer is the #1 cause of death by disease in children. Although the cure rate is now 78% – up by 30% in the last 20 years – it is not good enough. Our goal is a 100% cure rate.

We ask for a minimum donation of $27.50 to represent a dollar a mile for the 27.5 miles we will be completing, of course any amount will be appreciated and go to the best of causes, our children.

Movie Night @ High Country (Buckhead)

Movie NightJoin your friends at High Country Outfitters on November 11th, 7pm at High Country (Buckhead) for an evening of fun and fellowship with local climbers and those who just enjoy adventure.  Get a chance to catch up on everyone’s projects and how they are coming along while checking out some amazing videos.  Some of these we have seen before in other film festivals but maybe you missed the first go around and some are new (to me anyway).  The American Alpine club will be here with special deals for new members.  I just got back from Golden, CO and the American Alpine Center out there is amazing!  Sign up now and take that trip west you have always dreamed about.  AAC membership for sure has its benefits, see for yourself.  In addition, we are going to be presenting a FAT CHECK to the Southeastern Climbers Coalition for the money we raised at THE REEL ROCK TOUR.  Speaking of the SCC, they have applied for a Pepsi grant, vote now to help the SCC.  Hope to see you there and one more thing, Fall product is on the shelves come check it out.

$2000.00 Raised for the Southeastern Climbers Coalition

Reel RockWhat an event on Thursday night!!! If you missed it, you missed out.  My palms are still sweating!  The night started with a gathering of friends in the lobby of Lefont Theater.  Folks got to stop by and speak with some of our sponsors and buy some raffle tickets to have a chance to win some fantastic prizes.  Special thanks goes out to all of the people/businesses that supported the raffle with a prize.  The North Face put up some great prizes and PMI donated a rope which was our grand prize.  The ladies from Two Girls & a Mat were there demonstrating some yoga moves for climbers (don’t miss their Sunday morning class at High Country, Buckhead); Chad with the American Alpine Club had some cool giveaways; Trey from Adrenaline was there promoting her Halloween bouldering comp on October 23, 2010 and of course, Will, Tracey, and Joy were working the SCC booth selling raffle tickets and memberships.

Speaking of selling tickets!  We were able to raise $550.00 at the raffle table and after paying for the theater, movie, printing etc, we raised an additional $1450.00 in ticket sales. That’s $2000.00 for the SCC.  We are planning an event in October where we can present the SCC with that $2000.00 check  so be sure to check the site and your email inbox for details.

The movies started with some climbing humor and then got right to the nitty gritty climbing.  Some highlights for me were Peter and Lisa on The Hulk, Dean Potter’s “free basing”, and Ueli Steck the Swiss Machine.  All the movies were great and with the exception of a minor technical difficulty went off without a hitch. Who didn’t want to see Daniel and Paul pull off those amazing sends more than once, right?

Thank you again for all of you who came out and supported the SCC, what a kick-off to the amazing climbing season that is now upon us.  See you all in the Shop and at the Crag.
