SUP YOGA is a combination of yoga and stand up paddle boarding. We start each class with brief instruction on paddle technique and paddle out to a nearby protected area on the river where your SUP will be anchored. Following the warm up paddle, students will be guided through breathing techniques, basic sun salutations, and flow into more challenging postures on the water. Variations will be given to accommodate all levels and ages of students.
Absolutely. SUP YOGA is a new sport and definitely requires a sense of humor! We recommend taking a dip early on so you can enjoy more challenging poses later in the class with an open mind. The best way to stay on your board is to breathe and be present.
The benefits of practicing on the water are endless. Some of the advantages include: increased balance, strengthening your core (hello, bandhas!) and leg muscles, improved respiration, increased blood flow, energy, and happiness. We can’t imagine a better way to practice than surrounded by trees, water and sunshine!
We recommend ditching shoes at the Shack before class, but preparing for the elements. It is recommended to dress comfortably for “downward facing dog” on your SUP. Women typically wear wicking athletic tops and bottoms. Men typically wear athletic shorts. Optional items include: Water, Sunscreen, Sun Shirt, Sunglasses with Croakies.
If you have not done yoga before, no problem! Try to attend a beginners’ class beforehand so that the poses feel more natural on the water. There is a 24 hour cancellation policy. No refunds or reschedules will be made within 24 hours of the scheduled class. In the event of inclement weather, classes will be re-scheduled to a future date and we will notify you in advance. In the event of an emergency, please reach out to Caroline directly.
The classes are $35 and include a board, paddle, and lifejacket. Feel free to bring your own equipment!

Meet your guide, Caroline Sloan. Caroline’s love for the outdoors, the river, and yoga is contagious. This is her 5th year leading SUP YOGA classes and her 8th year as a yoga instructor. She is 260 hour International Yoga Alliance Certified in Vinyasa/Thai Massage by Anna Laurita of Davanna Yoga and ACE Paddleyoga certified by Key West Paddleboard Yoga. Caroline’s classes are described as a playful blend of strength work, sweating, stretching, and relaxing. She is passionate to get others outside and be active. When not teaching yoga classes on the water, Caroline instructs classes at Infinity Yoga. You can also join her for High Country Outfitters weekly SUP Demos on Thursdays at Morgan Falls.

I was inspired to start teaching this class because yoga just seems to make sense on the boards: you’re floating, a heron will fly overhead, and all you hear are the leaves around you rustling in the wind.
